Workers at Lavender magazine may be the first employees of a gay/lesbian/transgender publication to join a union in the United States.
The workers voted 9-0 on April for representation by The Minnesota Newspaper Guild/Typographical Union, which is Local 37002 of the Communications Workers of America.
The local's newly hired organizer, Martin Demgen, coordinated the campaign. Lavender magazine is published bi-weekly.
